"September came in with gold days and silver nights." JRR Tolkien, The Return of the King
I know September is a shorter month, but this is ridiculous! How are we already at the end of it?! I’m sure the speed with which we’ve swept through it has much to do with the events of the month: From the assassination of Charlie Kirk to our own everyday small doings. What should be the most pleasant time of the year has held some very unpleasant realities.
Oh God, merciful and compassionate, who art ever ready to hear the prayers of those who put their trust in thee; Graciously hearken to us who call upon thee, and grant us thy help in this our need; through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. ~ 1929, Book of Common Prayer

Quick Bits 💌 #019
My youngest daughter and I began our homeschool year. The togetherness is the easy part, as we are navigating a lot of the fallout from the last two years of public school, both academic and relational.
My boys have all had some incredible plays in their sports this fall, from touchdowns to 50 yard passes, and fancy footwork soccer goals.
This morning the sun rose bright and cheery on the dampness of the past two days. We’ve been weeks without rain, and everything desperately needed it.
With the end of summer also comes the time to harvest the poultry we’ve been raising: Twenty chickens in our freezer and 8 turkeys to other homes in anticipation of Thanksgiving. We’ve also squirreled away a 1/4 of a cow and a 1/2 of a pig from local farmers.

Quotable Quotes 💬
C.S. Lewis, from 1948:
“If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds.”
